babies and baths.

tonight we gave olive a bath. it's part of our new bedtime routine. i love this new nightly rythym, it works really well for our family. rusty comes home and has a little time with olive. then, we all eat dinner. olive is still learning how to feed herself so she is also messy and sticky afterwards.

she was so interested in the water. she sits and splashes her hands in the water. she looks up at us and smiles.  we play a lullaby cd and watch our sweet little girl learn what water and baths are all about.

when you think about being a mom, you imagine what your favorite moments will be, first steps, first foods ... the big stuff.  i never expected nightly bathtime to be the best time of the day.

but it's so sweet.

simple and sweet.

in the morning.

We spent the morning in olive's room today. she spent time in the floor, while i sat near her, folding some of her clothes. she was on her tummy, holding and chewing on a couple of her favorite toys.  she would occasionally grunt and let her frustration be known; tummy time is not her favorite.  she is getting pretty good at it, though.  she often brings her little knees up and tries to tuck them under her legs. She attempts to roll over, one arm in the air, head turned to the side. Little signs that soon she will be crawling and mobile.

I pick her up and look at her sweet face. We talk and smile at each other. She climbs all over me, feeling my shirt and my tummy. I hug her and try and soak up all of her baby-ness.  I look at her chubby fingers and fat little toes.  I throw her up in the air and bounce her around, making her giggle. I stick my fingers in between her ribs, touching her most ticklish spot. My hand runs over her little head full of fine, fuzzy hair.

Everyday, I try and take inventory of my growing baby. I re-learn all the parts of her that grew or changed.  There is always some new to be noticed.  Always something different to be enjoyed.
